A Granola Bar is Not a Meal

I like food so I am constantly looking for new ways to spice up my boring brown bag lunches and same old dinners that I have every single week.  So, I look on food blogs.  A lot.  Those, inevitably turn into this new phenomenon of "healthy living" blogs which seem to me are really just a bunch of girls that exercise entirely too much and eat less than my 8 year old niece, and trust me, she hardly eats anything at all.  These 'healthy livers" are some sort of a sick cult that all pat each other on the back for how much they've exercised, how little they've eaten and how they'll train harder the next day.  Some of these girls even go as far as to go to the gym multiple times a day.  Who has the time???  I sure don't!  But I do work 40 + hours a day, go to school and have to keep my home clean and feed my husband when I get home.

One of my favorites to pick apart is Katie over at Healthy Diva Eats.  She's fortunate that she doesn't have to work.  However she literally spends all of her time exercising, taking photos of her mini meals for her blog or telling us about her "Baby G" on the way.  If I had that kind of time, I could find way more productive things to do like volunteer at a daycare (hey, she needs practice!) read books to kids at the Library, something!  I would also not pay someone to do the chores around my house that i clearly have the time to do!

Additionally, her healthy eating choices for being pregnant are NOT in any way healthy.  A zero fat oat smoothie for breakfast every single day?  A granola bar and fruit for lunch?  A salad topped with a tiny piece of chicken for dinner, no dressing?  Sounds to me like you're staving yourself, sweetie.  The kicker is that it doesn't seem like her husband notices,  Or cares.  Not sure which.  She does have giant fake tatas so maybe that's what's blinding him.

I do think that this boom in "healthy living" bloggers has caused a surge in eating disorders amongst teens and young women.  The internet allows all of these women show what they are doing to stay do fit and "healthy" that young, impressionable minds wish to do the same.  It's kind of heartbreaking.

You may be asking "what did you eat this week accidentally anorexic?"  Well to be fair.  I was sick all weekend with the flu, So all I ate was soup since Wednesday.  But I am dreaming about a Chik Fil Sandwich for lunch sometime this week and a big piece of wedding cake at the bridal shower for a co-worker on Wednesday.  Or maybe spaghetti and meatballs...I am actually starving and can't wait to indulge!  I do like to eat healthy, but I do believe in moderation and if I am hungry for something, Im not going to deny myself that deliciousness!  I'm going to eat it!  Like this goodness:

I could tear that sandwich up like it's nobody's business :)

**disclaimer I do NOT have an eating disorder.  In any way shape or form.  I am a healthy 98 pound 31 year old, 5 foot tall girl.  I come from a small Irish family and tininess is in my genes.
